365Telugu.com online news,September 20,2023: Men in stressful, low-paying jobs have double the risk of heart disease compared to others, a new study has revealed. A study published in the journal ‘Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes’ found that psychosocial stress at work increases the risk of heart disease.

“Given the significant amount of time spent at work, it is important to understand the relationship between work stress, cardiovascular health, and workforce well-being,” said Mathilde Lavigne-Robichad of the Chu de Quebec-Université Laval Research Center in Quebec, Canada.

The study found that men who experienced job stress or low pay had a 49 percent higher risk of heart disease compared to other men. However, men who reported both job stress and pay imbalance had twice the risk of heart disease than those who did not experience the combined stress.

The impact of psychosocial stress at work on women’s cardiovascular health is inconclusive. According to Lavigne-Robichad, ‘job stress’ refers to a work environment in which employees face high demands and little control over their work.

Researchers studied nearly 6,500 workers monitored from 2000 to 2018, with an average age of 45, who did not have heart disease. The researchers measured job stress and pay imbalance with questionnaire results.

“Our results suggest that interventions aimed at reducing stress from the work environment may be particularly effective for men, and may also be positive for women, because these stressors, such as depression, are associated with other prevalent health problems,” Robichaud said, using data on cardiovascular disease collected using health databases.

“The study’s inability to establish a direct link between psychosocial job stress in women, coronary heart disease, and women’s heart health suggests the need for further research into the complex interaction,” Robichaud said.
