365Telugu.com online news, June 21,2024 :CII Telangana organized a CEO’s Round Table – “Policy and Advocacy Discussion on Pharma Services” on 21 June 2024, inHyderabad. The objective of the session was to understand the needs and create a vision roadmap for the Pharma and Life Sciences sector in the State of Telangana.
While addressing the Inaugural session of the Roundtable meeting, Ms Shilpa Reddy, Convenor,CII Telangana Pharma and Life Sciences Panel & Managing Director – Saptagir Group said that Telangana is home base to more than 800 life sciences companies with a combined value of over USD 50 billion contributing to over 40% India’s pharmaceutical production.
Pharma services is a bright spot within the pharma ecosystem comprising of Contract Research organizations (CROs) and Contract Development and Manufacturing organizations (CDMOs), which cater to an extensive customer base of top pharmaceutical companies.
This is a high growth; high potential industry provides employment to 1000’s of our best and brightest scientists and researchers and contributes significantly to the export of services from Telangana.
Mr Manni Kantipudi, Co-Convenor, CII Telangana Pharma and Life Sciences Panel & CEO, Aragen Life Sciences Ltd,mentioned that Pharma Services Sector is the future growth driver. China’s Pharma manufacturing market is many times bigger than India’s market.
A novel Drug discovery is quite challenging, and it may cost about $2-3 billion and may take about 10 years whereas generic drugs may cost about $ 40-50 million and could be developed in two years. Investments and time frames play a key role in success.
Government to consider setting up a dedicated pharma services park or a Cluster with simplified regulations to promote the industry. Pharma services companies to collaborate with the government and industry associations to develop the supply chain ecosystem and reduce dependence on China for raw materials.
Mr Jonathan Hunt, CEO, Syngene International Ltd mentioned that Pharma services companies need to work with the government and academic institutions to create training programs and develop talent for the industry.
Pharma services companies to explore partnerships with universities and institutes to set up centers for training and developing talent in the industry. Pharma services companies to position themselves as scientific partners and equals, rather than just service providers, to their clients.
Mr. Akhil Raavi, CEO, Aurigene Pharmaceutical Servicessaid that Quality compliances aspect got stabilized in the pharma sector in India. Government and industry to work together to create an ecosystem that can supplant China’s dominance in the pharma services industry.
Pharma services companies to quantify the size and potential of the industry over the next 10-15 years to present a compelling case to the government
Mr. Krishna Kanumuri, CEO & MD, Sai Life Sciences said that Government policies need to be simplified in the current market scenario. Pharma services companies should approach the government for simplifying regulatory processes, such as export permissions and batch approvals, for products meant for clinical trials and foreign markets.
Dr Ganesh Sambasivam, Co-Founder, Anthem Biosciences Private Limited mentioned that Pharma services companies to invest in greener and continuous manufacturing processes to meet tightening global regulations. Pharma services companies need to adopt AI and other technologies to increase efficiency and speed in drug discovery and development processes.
Mr. Sudarshan Jain, Secretary General, Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance said that Pharma Sector has to grow exponentially from current market size of $ 50 billion to $ 130 billion by 2035 and key focus areas which could drive the growth are Innovation, Quality and targeting global markets. Two thirds of pharma market comprises of new drugs and one third of the market is generic products.
