This revised schedule follows an adjustment by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which originally proposed the season to begin on March 14 and end on May 25, 2025. The earlier proposed dates were reportedly a tentative window, not the confirmed schedule for the 2025 season.
The timing change is believed to be connected to the Champions Trophy final on March 9, with speculation suggesting that broadcasters requested a later IPL start to avoid clashing with the international tournament. However, broadcasting sources have denied making such a request.
In keeping with tradition, Kolkata Knight Riders, the IPL 2024 champions, will host both the season opener and the final at Eden Gardens. Sunrisers Hyderabad, the runners-up from last season, will host two playoff matches.
