365Telugu.com online news,Hyderabad, June 10, 2025: The Telangana Sailing Association, in collaboration with the Yacht Club of Hyderabad and under the aegis of the Yachting Association of India, organized the 16th YAI Monsoon Regatta at Hussain Sagar, Hyderabad. The event, blessed with cloudy skies and favorable winds, showcased remarkable performances across various categories, with young sailors demonstrating skill and resilience.
In the Sub-Junior category, Shreya Krishna and Lahiri Komaravelly dominated the leaderboard. Despite a challenging 5th race where they finished 3rd and 7th, their consistent 1st and 2nd-place finishes in earlier races kept them at the top. In the Under-16 Boys, Krishna VR from RMYC clinched a thrilling victory in the 5th race, outpacing the leading girls and securing the top spot, narrowly ahead of Hyderabad’s Rizwan Mohammad, with Ravi Nayak Palthya holding onto third.
The Under-16 fleet displayed growing maturity, with lower-ranked sailors applying pressure by closing gaps across the lake. However, the leaders’ experience in handling rapid wind shifts ensured they maintained their positions, despite strong challenges from the back.
In the 420 Mixed Fleet, Hyderabad’s Thanuja and Shravan, alongside Deekshita and Ganesh, delivered consistent performances, securing 1st and 2nd in both races. Deekshita and Ganesh’s win in the 4th race solidified their second-place standing, prompting NSS Bhopal sailors to recalibrate their strategies for the upcoming races.
In the Under-18 Laser Girls, Alia Sabreen from RMYC Tamil Nadu surged ahead with two wins, amassing a net of 5 points, leaving Bhopal’s Mahi Verma and Tulsi Patle in 2nd and 3rd. In the Under-18 Laser Boys, Sharanya Jhadav from NYSC Goa strengthened his lead with a win, despite a double penalty forcing a retirement in one race.
The Under-19 29er Skiffs saw a dramatic shift, with top seeds Tangai and Divaker, who struggled on Day 1, climbing to second overall with two commanding wins, positioning them as strong contenders for the championship.

A special ceremony honored the youngest sailors in the Light Fleet (half-rigged Optimists), presided over by Smt. K. Shilpavalli, IPS. Her inspiring speech was attended by former Yacht Club champion Mahbubee Tungara, now with Telangana Police, and Preethi Kongara, Telangana’s sole representative at the 2023 Asian Games Sailing in China. The Beginners Light Fleet (Under-10) was won by Arepally Gracey from Telangana Social Welfare School, Mahendra Hills, in the Girls category and overall, with 10 wins out of 15 races, while Konda Samanyu from Gowtham Model School topped the Boys category.

Principal Race Officer Chaturvedi, a veteran of the past 10 Monsoon Regattas, praised the ideal weather and wind conditions, noting, “This weather is characteristic of the Monsoon Regatta and brings out the best in our young sailors.” He highlighted that the conditions are expected to remain favorable for the remaining races.
The regatta, spanning 12 races until June 14, allows sailors one discard after 3 races and another after 11 races. With seven races remaining over the next four days, the leaderboard could still see upsets, though the current leaders hold a strong advantage.
