365Telugu.com online news,June 11th,2025:In a landmark event, DFCC Bank PLC from Sri Lanka has become the first foreign corporate to list green bonds on the NSE International Exchange (NSE IX) at GIFT IFSC, Gujarat. On June 9, 2025, DFCC Bank’s executive team, led by CEO Mr. Thimal Perera and Senior Vice President of Treasury and Investment Banking Mr. Prins Perera, participated in the bell-ringing ceremony to mark the listing.
The listing involves LKR 2.5 billion worth of foreign currency-denominated green bonds, which are Sri Lanka’s first capital market debt instruments dedicated exclusively to financing renewable energy initiatives—particularly solar energy projects. These bonds aim to support Sri Lanka’s national target of generating 70% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. They are also listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange.
This pioneering issuance aligns with the broader vision of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) to position GIFT IFSC as a leading hub for sustainable and green finance within the Global South. It also marks the first foreign corporate green bond listing at GIFT IFSC, paving the way for issuers from Sri Lanka and neighboring countries to access a broader pool of global investors through the NSE IX platform.
Speaking at the event, IFSCA Chairperson Mr. K. Rajaraman said, “We are proud to support this significant listing by DFCC Bank. It highlights the strengthening of economic ties between India and Sri Lanka and underlines GIFT City’s growing role in enabling regional financial partnerships and sustainable growth.”
DFCC Bank CEO Mr. Thimal Perera emphasized the strategic importance of the listing: “As the first foreign corporate to list a bond on NSE IX, we’re showcasing how cross-border capital can be mobilized for impactful sustainability efforts. This step connects purpose with scale and ambition with execution.”
