365Telugu.com online news,Hyderabad, July 27, 2025:Celebrating the birthday of Superstar Mahesh Babu, the cult classic Athadu is all set for a grand re-release on August 9, 2025, nearly 20 years after its original release. Directed by Trivikram Srinivas and produced by veteran actor-producer Murali Mohan under the Jayabheri Arts banner, Athadu stars Mahesh Babu and Trisha in lead roles.
The digitally restored version—enhanced in Super 4K resolution with Dolby Atmos sound—has been meticulously upgraded by Prasads Corporation, aiming to bring the timeless magic of Athadu to a new generation of movie lovers.
At the press meet organized to launch the Athadu Super 4K trailer, Murali Mohan, Jayabheri’s Priyanka, Prasads Group Chairman Sai Prasad, Mahesh Babu Foundation’s Anvesh, and Excell Arts’ Jithender addressed the media.
Murali Mohan shared behind-the-scenes insights, revealing that Athadu was originally released on August 10, 2005, and the upcoming re-release coincides with Mahesh Babu’s birthday. “Back then, we shot the climax over 28 days using imported cameras from the UK. While the film had a moderate theatrical run, it became a massive hit post its television premieres, bringing goodwill and strong satellite revenue,” he said.
He added, “This re-release happened because audiences have been requesting it for over two years. Though we were hesitant initially, Priyanka took the lead to make it happen. We’re also planning a special screening at Prasads PCX.”

Priyanka highlighted the technical restoration, explaining, “We scanned the original negatives in 8K, restored them with advanced post-production tools, and are now presenting it in Super 4K with Dolby Atmos. The opening 15 minutes and the climax will be visual treats in theatres.”

Jithender from Excell Arts added, “Re-releasing Athadu on Mahesh Babu’s birthday is a fan’s dream. We’re confident that the audience will celebrate it like a new release.”
Key Takeaways from the Q&A Session:
- On profitability: Murali Mohan confirmed that while the theatrical run was average, satellite and ancillary rights helped recover costs and build the film’s legacy.
- On Athadu‘s iconic status: “No other Jayabheri film matched Athadu’s technical brilliance. Trivikram’s storytelling was way ahead of its time,” he said.
- On acting in the film: “I wasn’t offered a role,” he laughed.
- On a sequel: “If a sequel ever happens, it will only be with Mahesh Babu and Trivikram Srinivas. That’s non-negotiable.”
- On re-release clashes with new films: “Re-releases are rare. The real issue is ticket pricing, which is alienating middle-class families. Athadu will mainly release in multiplexes for a quality viewing experience.”
- On Sobhan Babu: “Yes, we considered him for Nasser’s role, but he respectfully declined, preferring to be remembered as a hero.”
- On remake plans: Murali Mohan expressed interest in remaking O Thandri Theerpu, Jayabheri’s Nandi award-winning film.
- On lead casting rumors: He dismissed the rumor that Pawan Kalyan was approached, stating they always envisioned Mahesh Babu in the lead.
The press meet ended with a warm exchange of memories and excitement as the team looks forward to sharing Athadu with both long-time fans and a new generation.
