He is considered the preserver and protector of the universe and is part of the Trimurti, the Hindu trinity along with Brahma (the creator) and Shiva (the destroyer). Lord Vishnu is known for his numerous incarnations (avatars) which he takes to restore cosmic order and protect the world from evil.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu has ten primary avatars called Dashavatara. These include:
Matsya (the fish)
Kurma (the tortoise)
Varaha (the boar)
Narasimha (the half-man, half-lion)
Vamana (the dwarf)
Parashurama (the warrior sage)
Rama (the prince of Ayodhya)
Krishna (the divine cowherd)
Buddha (the enlightened one, in some traditions)
Kalki (the future avatar, yet to come)

Lord Vishnu is often depicted with a blue skin, holding a discus (Sudarshana Chakra), a conch shell (Shankha), a mace (Kaumodaki), and a lotus flower (Padma). He is usually shown resting on the celestial serpent Adi Shesha (also known as Ananta Shesha).
Devotees of Lord Vishnu worship him through various rituals, prayers, and bhajans (devotional songs). His devotees believe that by praying to Lord Vishnu, they can seek his blessings for protection, harmony, and spiritual enlightenment.
