A distinguished officer from the 1996 batch of the Indian Railway Accounts Services (IRAS), he has played a pivotal role in shaping India’s mining sector.

With a visionary approach, Shri Mukherjee has been leading NMDC as the CMD (Additional Charge) since March 2023 and serving as Director (Finance) since November 2018. Additionally, he chairs NMDC Steel Limited and Legacy Iron Ore Limited. Under his leadership, NMDC achieved a historic milestone in FY24, becoming the first iron ore mining company in India to exceed 45 million tonnes in production.

His strategic direction has propelled NMDC to its highest-ever turnover and net worth. He has championed the adoption of cutting-edge digital and technical infrastructure, reinstated operations at India’s only mechanized diamond mine, and played a crucial role in commissioning the NMDC Steel Plant, a landmark achievement for Bastar.

Beyond domestic success, Shri Mukherjee has spearheaded NMDC’s expansion into international markets, including gold mining ventures in Australia. His leadership has been instrumental in defining investment strategies, strengthening financial discipline, and setting a bold vision for responsible mining.
