The two entities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on February 4, 2026, aimed at the joint development and production of electric buses and advanced defence vehicles.
This collaboration marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral industrial ties between India and Indonesia, specifically focusing on sustainable urban mobility and national security.

The MoU was formalized at Pindad’s headquarters in Bandung by Prof. Sigit P. Santosa, CEO of PT Pindad, and Mr. Amandeep Singh, President of International Operations (Defence, LCV & PSB) at Ashok Leyland.
“Our partnership with Pindad allows us to jointly develop products uniquely suited to Indonesia’s terrain and operational needs,” stated Amandeep Singh, highlighting the intent to move beyond simple technology transfer toward deep co-development.
This move positions Ashok Leyland to tap into Southeast Asia’s rapidly expanding EV market, which has grown from 17,000 units in late 2023 to over 100,000 units by the end of 2025.
