365telugu.com online news, New delhi,December 31st,2025: In a major boost to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has awarded Bharat Forge Limited (BFL) its largest-ever small arms contract. The deal, valued at ₹1,661.9 crore, is for the supply of 255,128 Close Quarter Battle (CQB) Carbines to the Indian Army.

The contract was formally signed on December 30, 2025, and stipulates that the order be executed over a five-year period.

Indigenous Design and Development
The 5.56 x 45 mm CQB Carbine is a compact, high-performance firearm categorized under the Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured (IDDM) framework. The weapon is the result of a successful joint collaboration between:

ARDE (Armament Research & Development Establishment)

DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation)

Bharat Forge Ltd., Pune

Strengthening National Defence
This agreement underscores the growing capability of India’s private sector in the defense manufacturing landscape. Bharat Forge, alongside its wholly-owned subsidiary Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), will lead the production to ensure the Indian Armed Forces are equipped with advanced, “Made in India” weaponry.

The CQB Carbine is specifically designed for high-intensity combat in confined spaces, providing the Indian Army with a modern replacement for its aging small arms inventory.
