365Telugu.com online news, December 28th, 2024: The weather at the Telangana State Sailing Championship was ideal for sailing, with mild to medium winds and plenty of sunshine, creating great conditions for the competitors. India’s No. 1, Govardhan Pallara from Hyderabad, was in second place just before the last race of the nine-race series in the Sub Junior category.

He was on the verge of being overtaken by his arch rival, Deekshita, when, in a dramatic final leg, he surged from 4th place to 1st. Meanwhile, Deekshita dropped from 2nd to 14th due to an unexpected wind shift. As a result, Govardhan was declared the State Sub Junior Champion, with Deekshita finishing as the runner-up. Both are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the Sub Junior Optimist Class by the National Federation at the end of their careers.

Govardhan commented, “I have never sailed a more challenging championship. I was lucky in the last race to win, and it was Deekshita’s bad luck that the wind shifted in my favor.”

Suheim Sheikh, the President of the Telangana Sailing Association, praised Govardhan’s sailing skills, saying, “I have rarely seen a sailor of such acumen in my career as a coach for Telangana.”

Shravan Kathravath, a tribal boy from Nalgonda, continued his streak of victories and was declared the State Boys Junior Champion without any challenge from his competitors. He was able to skip the final race, as his position was already secured.

The standout performer of the day was Thanuja Kameshwar of Udbhav School, Hyderabad. She made history by securing a hat trick with three golds in the State Championship—one each in the Double Handed Skiff Class, the Double Hander Dinghy Class, and the ILCA 4 single-handed class. Thanuja is set to be the most decorated sailor at the championships and does not need to compete in the final race scheduled.

Ms. Shantha Sinha, Padma Shri awardee, Magsaysay awardee, and former chairperson of the Child Welfare Commission, presented a few of the prizes at a ceremony attended by the children and their parents.

The final prize-giving ceremony will take place at the Yacht Club of Hyderabad at Sanjivaiah Park at 4 pm, with Shri Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, presiding over the function.
