365Telugu.com online news,Chennai, December 20, 2024: Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), a leader in smart mobility solutions, has announced a groundbreaking move in the Indian automotive industry. The company will now equip its domestic vehicle lineup with AMARON’s indigenously manufactured AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) battery technology, sourced from Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Limited (ARE&M).

This cutting-edge AGM battery will be used as the SLI (Starting, Lighting, and Ignition) battery in Hyundai’s vehicles, in line with their existing procurement agreement with ARE&M.

The integration of these locally produced AGM batteries is set to begin in Q4 of FY 2024-2025, making Hyundai the first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in India to implement this localized technology. The move aligns with Hyundai’s commitment to localization and its focus on incorporating innovative, locally sourced technologies for Indian customers.

Gopalakrishnan Chathapuram Sivaramakrishnan, Whole-time Director and Chief Manufacturing Officer at Hyundai Motor India, commented, “At Hyundai, adopting innovative technology to meet the evolving expectations of our customers has always been a priority.

By introducing the indigenously made AGM battery technology from Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Limited, we are taking a significant step forward in our localization efforts. This aligns with the Government of India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative and strengthens our commitment to India.”

The AMARON AGM batteries have undergone rigorous real-world durability tests, outperforming traditional CMF (Complete Maintenance Free) batteries by over 150%. With enhanced operational temperature ranges and longer lifespans, AGM batteries are well-suited to the diverse driving conditions in India.

Harshavardhana Gourineni, Executive Director at Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Limited, said, “We are excited to support Hyundai Motor India in shaping the future of mobility. This partnership marks a significant milestone in AMARON’s mission to deliver world-class energy solutions.

Our AGM batteries meet stringent Real Driving Emissions (RDE) norms, including India’s BS6 Phase 2 standards, and offer cutting-edge performance for OEMs.”

Key Features of the Made-in-India AGM Batteries:

  • Advanced AGM Technology: Quick charging, long lifespan, low self-discharge, minimal maintenance, and high power efficiency, making it ideal for vehicles with Idle Stop and Go (ISG) systems.
  • Improved Energy Efficiency: AGM technology offers smoother starts and better energy efficiency, supporting higher electrical loads in modern vehicles.
  • Economic & Environmental Benefits: This localization initiative helps create local jobs, boosts economic growth, reduces costs, and lowers the carbon footprint by decreasing reliance on imports.
  • RDE-Compliant: The AGM batteries have been extensively tested at Hyundai’s global R&D centre in Namyang, South Korea, to ensure compliance with Indian emission standards.
  • Future-Ready: The integration of AGM batteries will enable HMIL to roll out next-generation vehicles that offer enhanced performance, greater range, and lower emissions.

Hyundai Motor India continues to enhance its localization efforts, working closely with over 194 vendors for more than 1,200 components at its Chennai manufacturing plant and focusing on further localization for its upcoming Talegaon, Maharashtra plant.

This strategic move positions Hyundai Motor India as a pioneer in introducing world-class, locally sourced battery technology to the Indian automotive market.
