365Telugu.com Online News, November 14th, 2024: World Diabetes Day is observed annually on November 14 to raise global awareness about diabetes. India, often called the “Diabetes Capital of the World,” faces significant challenges with diabetes. According to a recent study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 101 million Indians have diabetes, with 136 million classified as pre-diabetic. Incorporating a balanced diet, including nutrient-rich foods like almonds, can play a key role in managing diabetes effectively. Almonds are rich in protein, unsaturated fats, and dietary fiber, all of which help manage blood sugar levels.
Studies led by Dr. Anoop Misra at Fortis C-DOC, New Delhi, found that eating almonds before meals significantly improved blood sugar control in Asian Indians. Another study noted that almonds helped reduce HbA1c levels among at-risk adolescents in India, making almonds a beneficial choice for many.
Nutrition and wellness consultant Sheela Krishnaswamy advised including natural foods high in protein, unsaturated fats, and dietary fiber, like almonds, in daily diets to support healthy blood sugar levels. Ritika Samaddar, Head of Dietetics at Max Healthcare, emphasized reducing refined sugars and unhealthy fats, suggesting almonds, pulses, green leafy vegetables, and whole grains as effective options for maintaining stable blood sugar.
Bollywood actress Soha Ali Khan added that she avoids sugary foods to keep blood sugar levels in check, opting for nutrient-rich choices like almonds for overall health and wellness. Nutritionist Dr. Rohini Patil also recommends almonds, rich in protein and fiber, as a healthy choice for managing blood sugar. On this World Diabetes Day, let’s aim for better health by adding nutrient-dense foods like almonds to our daily meals.
