365Telugu.com online news,Vizag,September 22, 2024: In a significant effort to preserve the environment, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) collaborated with Ecolastic Products Pvt. Ltd., a Hyderabad-based bioplastics manufacturer, to conduct a beach cleanup drive at three prominent locations on India’s East Coast-RK Beach and Rushikonda Beach in Vizag, and NTR Beach in Kakinada.
The event, attended by key figures including Mr. Rajesh Mittal, Deputy Commandant of the Coast Guard; Mr. Harendhira Prasad, Collector of Vizag; and Mr. Ratnesh Kumar, Executive Director of M/s ONGC, saw an overwhelming turnout of over 6,800 participants. Volunteers from diverse backgrounds, including local residents, environmental organizations, schools, and businesses, dedicated their time and effort to remove plastic waste and debris, restoring cleanliness to the beaches.
Ecolastic provided 100% compostable garbage bags made from corn starch for the cleanup, garnering praise from volunteers for their eco-friendliness. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of marine pollution caused by single-use plastics, emphasizing the urgent need for sustainable alternatives.
Deputy Commandant Rajesh Mittal remarked, “It was a wonderful day to see participants converge on the beachfront armed with Ecolastic’s compostable garbage bags and a shared determination to make a difference. The collective efforts not only restored the beach’s natural beauty but also protected our delicate marine ecosystem. We hope to see more initiatives encouraging awareness about the perils of single-use plastics and their harmful effects on marine life.”
Mr. Jithendra Nimmagadda, Director & CEO of Ecolastic Products, expressed gratitude towards the Indian Coast Guard for facilitating this engagement. During the four-hour event, volunteers meticulously collected over 4,450 kilograms (4.45 tons) of plastic waste and debris, showcasing Ecolastic’s commitment to protecting the environment and fostering community engagement.
