Marking the 20th anniversary of the Convention—the only legally binding international instrument dedicated to promoting integrity and combating doping in sport—India reaffirmed its commitment to clean sport.

The Indian delegation, led by Shri Hari Ranjan Rao, Secretary (Sports), and Shri Anant Kumar, Director General, National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), engaged with representatives from over 190 States Parties, the African Union, the International Olympic Committee, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), and other international organizations.

India was re-elected as Vice-Chairperson of the COP10 Bureau for the Asia-Pacific (Group IV) region for the 2025–2027 term, with Azerbaijan elected as Chairperson and Brazil, Zambia, and Saudi Arabia as Vice-Chairs for their respective regions. India also provided in-kind support by facilitating interactive boards showcasing the Anti-Doping Convention’s journey.

The session, attended by over 500 representatives from national governments, anti-doping organizations, and UNESCO delegations, focused on enhancing governance, compliance, and financing for the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport. Discussions also addressed emerging challenges, such as gene manipulation, traditional pharmacopoeia, and ethical issues in sport.

The COP9 Bureau and Approval Committee’s report emphasized institutional coherence, strategic communication, and cross-sectoral integration. India proposed amendments to promote harmonization and visibility in education-related projects, integrating the Values Education through Sport (VETS) approach to foster ethics, integrity, and sport values among youth, sports organizations, and society.

The outcomes of COP10 will support ongoing reforms to strengthen the Convention’s governance and effectiveness, with States Parties reaffirming their collective commitment to promoting fairness and integrity in sport.
