Patil, representing India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighted the country’s transformative water security and sanitation initiatives during key sessions at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The discussions focused on India’s commitment to global collaboration and the pursuit of sustainable development goals (SDGs).
On January 24, in the session titled Fostering Global Collaboration for a Water-Secure Future, Shri Patil, along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis, leading water experts, and over 300 participants from around the world (both in-person and virtually), shared India’s leadership in ensuring water security.
He spotlighted Gujarat’s remarkable transformation under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership from a water-scarce state to a water-secure model, which has inspired similar efforts nationwide.

Initiatives like the Jal Shakti Abhiyaan, which has led to the creation and restoration of over 60,000 Amrit Sarovars, and other large-scale water conservation programs were presented as pivotal drivers of India’s success.
The session underscored the global importance of addressing water scarcity through sustainable practices and international cooperation.
On January 25, Shri C.R. Patil highlighted India’s landmark achievements in water and sanitation at the World Economic Forum. He showcased India’s leadership in executing some of the largest programs worldwide, including rural drinking water supply, rural sanitation, and river rejuvenation.
He emphasized the success of the Jal Jeevan Mission, which has provided safe drinking water to over 15 crore rural households, the Swachh Bharat Mission, which has constructed 120 million rural toilets, enhancing public health and dignity, and the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), which has become a global model for river rejuvenation and environmental sustainability.

Shri Patil also emphasized the creation of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, consolidating multiple departments under one umbrella, showcasing Prime Minister Modi’s firm commitment to addressing water-related issues.
This comprehensive approach reflects India’s dedication to achieving the United Nations’ SDG of ensuring safe drinking water and sanitation for all. The programs have greatly improved lives, reduced waterborne diseases, and promoted environmental sustainability, setting a global benchmark.
India’s efforts were widely acknowledged at Davos, recognizing its leadership in tackling global water and sanitation challenges. Through these sessions, Shri Patil reinforced India’s commitment to sustainable development and its active role in nurturing global partnerships, aligned with the principle vasudhaiva kutumbakam—the world is one family.
