L2E: Empuraan is also set to become the first Malayalam film to be released in IMAX® format worldwide.
The launch was graced by Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran, producer Gokulam Gopalan, actors Indrajith Sukumaran and Manju Warrier, writer Murali Gopy, Hindi distribution partner Anil Thadani, and other key members of the cast and crew.
Mohanlal: “This Is Not a Film; It’s Magic”
Sharing his excitement about the film, Mohanlal expressed his heartfelt emotions, saying, “It’s a beautiful journey of 47 years, and making a film of this scale is no easy task. This was our dream, and I want to thank Prithviraj for making it a reality. This is not just a film; it’s magic. It’s our sweat and blood. We started the trilogy with Lucifer, now comes Empuraan, and another part is in the pipeline. But I won’t say more—let the film speak for itself.”

Director Prithviraj Sukumaran acknowledged the immense effort behind the project, stating, “Directing a film is never easy, but this was a particularly ambitious venture. We conceived Empuraan as a trilogy, and we knew from the start that it needed to go beyond the limits of a traditional Malayalam film. I gave my first narration in 2022 in Dubai, and I was half-expecting Mohanlal sir to say it was too ambitious. But the moment I finished, he said, ‘We are doing this.’ That confidence pushed me forward.”
He also emphasized the significance of financial backing in large-scale productions, thanking producer Gokulam Gopalan for his support, saying, “Malayalam cinema has always excelled in storytelling, but scaling up productions to a national level was a challenge. Thanks to visionaries like Gokulam Gopalan and Anil Thadani, we now have the support to take Malayalam films beyond regional boundaries.”
A Team Effort Behind Empuraan
Producer Gokulam Gopalan expressed his gratitude, stating, “I feel blessed to be part of this project. I believe in its success and in its ability to make a mark on a global scale.”
Actor Indrajith Sukumaran reflected on his journey, saying, “Working with Prithviraj as a director in Lucifer was a fantastic experience. This time, my role is much more extensive, and I hope to have an even bigger part in the next chapter.”
Writer Murali Gopy hinted at the larger narrative, stating, “If you’ve seen Lucifer, you already have a foundation for what’s coming. Empuraan builds on that and will ultimately conclude the trilogy.”
Manju Warrier shared her excitement, saying, “Being part of a film of this magnitude is an incredible experience. I’ve been fortunate to work with Mohanlal sir multiple times, and some of my most celebrated roles have been alongside him. Working with him is a blessing for any actor.”

Anil Thadani of AA Films expressed his admiration for Mohanlal, saying, “This is my first time working with him, and it’s a huge honour. Prithvi, you have raised the bar for the entire Indian film industry with this film.”
