This annual award seeks inventive solutions to everyday challenges and global issues, encouraging young minds to create impactful designs that improve lives.
Since its inception in 2005, the award has supported over 400 student innovations, offering a total of £1 million (Approx. INR 112 crores) in prize money along with a global platform for recognition.
The ultimate Global Winners, handpicked by Sir James Dyson, will receive £30,000 (Approx. INR 30 lakhs) and a rare opportunity for international media exposure, helping them commercialize their groundbreaking ideas.

Founder of Dyson, Sir James Dyson, emphasized the competition’s goal:

“I started the James Dyson Award 20 years ago to inspire and support the next generation of design engineers. The ideas we’ve seen since then prove that young people are committed to solving the world’s biggest problems—whether in medicine, the environment, or technology. I’m excited to see what innovative solutions emerge this year—good luck!”
Notable Past Winners
The James Dyson Award has a history of recognizing groundbreaking ideas that have made a real-world impact:
- Novocarry – India’s 2024 National Winner, developed by Komal Panda from Odisha, is a portable cooling carrier designed to keep insulin and liquid medications at the optimal temperature, ensuring accessibility and affordability.
- mOm Incubators – Created by James Roberts from Loughborough University, this low-cost, inflatable incubator has provided life-saving neonatal care to over 10,000 newborns worldwide, including in war-torn regions like Ukraine.
- SoaPen – A runner-up from the U.S., Shubham Issar and Amanat Anand of Parsons School of Design developed this soap pen, making handwashing fun and accessible for children. Since its recognition, SoaPen has successfully launched in the U.S. market and continues to promote hygiene education globally.
