365telugu.com online news,Mumbai, August 13, 2025: L&T Energy GreenTech Ltd (LTEG), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), has signed a Joint Development Agreement with Japan’s ITOCHU Corporation to set up a 300,000 tonnes per annum (KTPA) green ammonia facility at Kandla, Gujarat.

Under the partnership, LTEG will develop the project while ITOCHU will offtake the green ammonia for bunkering operations in Singapore, strengthening clean energy adoption in the maritime sector. The move aligns with both companies’ sustainability and decarbonisation goals.

Last year, L&T acquired a large land parcel at Kandla to pursue green hydrogen and ammonia projects. The latest deal strengthens LTEG’s strategy to build a robust presence across the green energy value chain and supports ITOCHU’s efforts to introduce low-carbon ammonia as a zero-emission marine fuel.

Subramanian Sarma, Deputy Managing Director & President, L&T, said:

“As the global energy landscape shifts towards sustainability, L&T is committed to accelerating the clean energy transition through innovation, partnerships, and engineering excellence. This collaboration with ITOCHU reinforces our vision of enabling a greener future.”

Hiroyuki Tsubai, Executive Vice President, Member of the Board, and President, Machinery Company, ITOCHU Corporation, said:

“Partnering with L&T, one of India’s most respected private sector companies, will strengthen our initiatives to bring low-carbon ammonia to the maritime sector. With this project, Kandla will become a key production hub for our Singapore bunkering operations.”

With abundant renewable resources and competitive power costs, India is well-positioned to lead globally in green hydrogen and its derivatives. The National Green Hydrogen Mission targets at least 5 million tonnes per annum production by 2030, backed by investments of over USD 100 billion—creating green jobs, boosting innovation, and enhancing energy security.
