Similar complaints were received from Tirupati, Chittoor and other districts. According to the new rules that came into effect from August 15, teachers have to register their attendance at 9 am. Failure to do so will result in loss of half day leave or salary. Teachers say the biometric system has also not been very successful due to network issues.

Several principals have informed their problems. Some teachers in Tirupati have expressed apprehension over the security features of their personal data stored in mobile phones. Some believe that the government should supply a special mobile phone for face recognition.

Teachers are already overloaded with many other tasks besides teaching and they are demanding to be relieved of those extra responsibilities. While urban areas face network problems, teachers are questioning what will happen to teachers in remote areas where phone signals are not available.

Some questioned why they should lose a half day leave or salary for no fault of theirs. Harassing teachers like this is not appropriate. The district general secretary of United Teachers Federation (UTF) K. Mutyala Reddy said that the government wants to withhold the new rule until the network problems are resolved and teachers are given special equipment.
