According to reports, lakhs of fans had gathered around the stadium to catch a glimpse of the RCB players, leading to severe overcrowding at multiple entry points. The situation spiraled out of control, resulting in a deadly stampede.
BCCI’s Reaction:
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia expressed deep regret over the incident, describing it as “very unfortunate.” He criticized the lack of planning, stating, “Celebrations of this scale must be organized with strict crowd control and safety measures.” He further clarified that the BCCI had no direct role in planning the event and highlighted the need for stringent guidelines to ensure public safety in future celebratory events.
Saikia also drew comparisons with the well-executed T20 World Cup victory parade in Mumbai and the IPL finale celebrations in Ahmedabad, where strong coordination with local authorities ensured safety. He confirmed that the BCCI would soon draft formal protocols for crowd management during large-scale events.
