The Safeway Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant to the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center to research how turmeric can reduce complications from anti-estrogen medications in breast cancer patients.
“This cash gift will have a tremendous impact on our program,” says Miley Arora, associate professor of hematology and oncology at UC Davis.
“We thank the Safeway Foundation for supporting our efforts to help breast cancer patients live their best lives.”
Turmeric is used by some arthritis sufferers to reduce joint pain. The Safeway Foundation’s UC Davis trial suggests that turmeric is combined with oral anti-estrogen drugs in pill form.
