The award was presented during the University’s prestigious summer graduation ceremony held at the historic Bath Abbey, recognising Mr. Mittal’s exceptional contributions to global business, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy.
A trailblazer of India’s telecommunications revolution, Mr. Mittal has played a transformative role in shaping the global communications industry through Bharti Airtel, one of the world’s leading telecom providers. Beyond telecom, his leadership spans digital infrastructure, financial services, and space communications. His commitment to education, equity, and innovation reflects his deep-rooted purpose and global vision.
Professor Phil Taylor, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Bath, commented:

His humanitarian work, which has positively affected over 3.7 million children through education and rural development, sends an inspiring message to our graduating students about the importance of giving back. This recognition marks Mr. Mittal’s ninth honorary doctorate and third from a UK university. He previously received the Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) from the University of Leeds (2009) and the Doctor of Civil Law (Honoris Causa) from Newcastle University (2012).
