365telugu.com online news, Hyderabad,January 9th,2026: In a significant move to promote traditional wellness and female athletic empowerment, the Ministry of Sports, the Sports Authority of India (SAI), and Khelo India have announced the Asmita Yogasana League 2025–26 (South Zone). The event is being organized in collaboration with the Telangana Yogasana Association.

The official event poster was unveiled at Delhi Public School (DPS), Nacharam, followed by a press conference detailing the upcoming competitions.

Focus on Heritage and Health
Speaking at the launch, Malka Komaraiah, MLC and Chairman of DPS & Pallavi Model Schools, highlighted the global resurgence of yoga. He noted that while yoga is an ancient Indian treasure, its recent growth has been bolstered by national leadership and a renewed global interest.

“Yoga has seen transformative development in recent years with the introduction of various grassroots programs,” Komaraiah stated. He expressed pride that Telangana, and specifically DPS Nacharam, was chosen as the inaugural host for the South Zone league, urging the public to embrace yoga for improved quality of life.

Empowering Women Through Competition
The league serves as a dedicated platform for female practitioners. Sridhar Rao, State President of the Telangana Yogasana Sports Association, confirmed that the competitions will take place from the 11th to the 13th of this month.

The event will feature six distinct categories of yogasana, designed to showcase the creative and physical potential of women and girls.

Event Highlights
According to Nandanam Krupakar, State General Secretary of the Association, the league marks a historic first for the state. Key details include:

Participation: Approximately 400 athletes are expected to compete.

Regional Reach: Participants will represent seven different states across South India.

Age Diversity: The league is inclusive, featuring age groups ranging from 10-year-old girls to women aged 55.

The organizers extended their gratitude to the local leadership for providing the infrastructure and support necessary to host an event of this scale. The Asmita Yogasana League aims to bridge the gap between traditional practice and modern competitive sports, further solidifying India’s position as a global leader in yoga.
