According to CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan, Dhoni has been retained by the franchise for ₹4 crore and is expected to lead the team once again in the 2026 IPL season.
Dhoni’s bond with CSK stretches back to the inaugural edition of the IPL. Except for the two years when the team was suspended, the former India captain has been the heart and soul of the franchise. If he takes the field in 2026, it will mark his 17th season with CSK and 19th overall in the IPL.
Even at 44 years of age, Dhoni continues to play a crucial role — both as a tactical mastermind and as a mentor to younger players. After a disappointing 2024 campaign, where CSK finished tenth, the team is now banking on Dhoni’s leadership to regain its championship form.
