The initiative, launched by Signify (formerly Philips Lighting) in partnership with the Government of Chhattisgarh and Bharat Cares, aims to transform 70 villages located within the Indravati Tiger Reserve area. By installing modern, energy-efficient LED streetlights, the project seeks to bridge the infrastructural gap in remote tribal regions.
Advancing the Vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’
Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India (Viksit Bharat), the project focuses on strengthening rural foundations. The introduction of bright, reliable lighting is expected to:

Enhance Public Safety: Reducing risks for residents in wildlife-proximate areas.
Boost Local Economy: Allowing markets and small businesses to operate for longer hours after sunset.
Foster Social Inclusion: Enabling children to study and communities to gather safely under reliable illumination.
A Synergy of Governance and Technology
The project utilizes a community-first model, where district administrations and village representatives were consulted to ensure lighting was placed where it was needed most.
Nikhil Gupta, Head of Marketing, Strategy, Govt. Affairs & CSR at Signify Greater India, stated: “Light is more than just illumination; it’s an enabler of safety and opportunity. This partnership reflects the power of collective action in creating sustainable, long-term impact on India’s journey towards a Viksit Bharat.”
Bhomik Shah, Founder of Bharat Cares, highlighted the environmental harmony of the project: “Chhattisgarh stands at the cusp of meaningful change. We are enabling safer communities while strengthening the harmony between people and nature in the Indravati region.”
