365Telugu.com online news, June 6th,2025: HYDRAA, in collaboration with the Cantonment Board, GHMC, Revenue, Irrigation, and other departments, has undertaken a major operation to remove encroachments along a 150-metre stretch of the Rasoolpura Nala. This drive follows an extensive inspection conducted yesterday.
The culvert near the old Anand Theatre at Rasoolpura Junction is 18 metres wide. The Nala, which flows from various colonies of Secunderabad and Cantonment areas, maintains an 18-metre width before reaching the Patny Properties stretch, where it narrows drastically to just 5 metres due to encroachments.
These constrictions have led to recurring waterlogging and flood-like conditions, even with just 2–5 cm of rainfall, severely affecting thousands of poor and middle-class residents upstream.

In today’s operation, several encroaching structures were demolished, relieving years of hardship for local residents. The CEO of the Cantonment Board has also assured that a retaining RCC wall will be constructed immediately after the clearance to prevent future encroachments and improve water flow.

The concerned departments have also carried out extensive silt removal from the Nala, significantly increasing its discharge and carrying capacity. These small but coordinated interventions are expected to bring major improvements to flood mitigation and urban infrastructure resilience.
HYDRAA is now actively studying all flood-prone and waterlogged areas across Hyderabad to identify root causes. The agency has committed to taking stern action against all illegal encroachments on Nalas and water bodies to protect the lives and property of lakhs of citizens.
HYDRAA’s approach will be mindful-while commercial and obstructive structures will be removed without hesitation, utmost care will be taken to avoid harm to the poor and lower middle class.

In rare and unavoidable cases where essential demolitions affect vulnerable populations, HYDRAA will raise the matter with the government for appropriate compensation and rehabilitation.

This intensified focus on water infrastructure and encroachment clearance will continue for the next four months throughout the monsoon season. It is part of a larger strategy to alleviate rain-induced submergence and traffic congestion across the city.
HYDRAA appeals to all government bodies, political parties, media, and citizens for their support in this crucial drive. Together, we can improve the quality of life for all Hyderabadis and build a safer, more resilient city for the future.
