365Telugu.com online news, february 1st,2025: In December and January alone, the intense cold has claimed the lives of 474 homeless individuals in the nation’s capital, Delhi.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) reported that many homeless shelters in Delhi lacked proper facilities, and the absence of basic amenities forced people to endure the extreme cold.

The NHRC expressed deep concern over the tragic loss of over 400 lives due to the cold and took suo-motu cognizance of the issue. The Commission issued notices to the Delhi Chief Secretary and Delhi Police Commissioner, asking for a detailed report within a week.

The NHRC further highlighted that the lack of adequate medical care and proper management in shelters has led to health challenges such as respiratory infections, skin diseases, and deteriorating mental health among the homeless living on the streets.

100 Deaths at Railway Stations

The majority of the deaths during this cold season have been recorded in and around railway stations. These include Anand Vihar, Sabzi Mandi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Sarai Rohilla, Delhi Cantt., and other stations, where nearly 100 people have died. The NHRC expressed concern over this issue as well.

Subsequently, more deaths occurred in North Delhi areas, including Sabzi Mandi, Kashmiri Gate, Kotwali, Lahori Gate, Civil Lines, Bara Hindu Rao, Sadar Bazar, Timarpur, Sarai Rohilla, Wazirabad, Gulabi Bagh, and other places, with 83 deaths recorded since November.

In Central Delhi, areas like Daryaganj, Paharganj, Nabi Karim, Jama Masjid, House Khaji, Rajendra Nagar, Patel Nagar, Kamla Market, Karol Bagh, and other regions have seen 54 homeless individuals die due to the cold.
