This represents a 57.5% increase from 2020, highlighting the urgent need for expanded cancer research, improved medical infrastructure, and easier access to treatment.

In this context, Axis Bank has welcomed the Union Finance Minister’s budget announcement on 1st February to establish cancer daycare centers across all districts in India, with 200 such centers to be launched over the next three years.

Speaking about these initiatives, Vijay Mulbagal, Group Executive for Strategic Programs & Sustainability at Axis Bank, said, “At Axis Bank, we are committed to supporting India’s fight against cancer.

Our partnerships with leading institutions in cancer research, treatment, and patient care reflect our dedication to enhancing healthcare capabilities in the country. Together, we are working towards a future where advanced cancer care is accessible to all in need.”

Axis Bank’s cancer care initiatives focus on three key pillars:

  1. Advancing Cancer Research, Innovation, and Training: In partnership with the National Cancer Grid (NCG), Axis Bank is supporting strategic projects aimed at improving India’s oncology infrastructure. These include establishing a national tele-consultation platform for follow-up care, creating a National Tumour Biobank, digitizing oncology-specific electronic medical records (EMRs), and setting up a Virtual Skills Lab to train healthcare professionals. These initiatives will benefit over 300 hospitals affiliated with the NCG and strengthen India’s digital health adoption, in line with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
  2. Strengthening Preventive Care: In collaboration with the Indian Cancer Society (ICS), Axis Bank is funding screening and awareness programs for oral, cervical, and breast cancers, with the goal of reaching over 800,000 beneficiaries, including citizens and community health workers. The initiative also supports the Dr. Arun Kurkure Initiation and Treatment Fund, along with the Cancer Cure Treatment Fund, to provide financial assistance to low-income patients for diagnostics and treatment.
  3. Providing Patient Support: Axis Bank has partnered with St. Jude India Childcare Centres, a not-for-profit organization providing accommodation for families of children undergoing cancer treatment. The Bank supported the establishment of a new St. Jude facility in Hyderabad, which will offer clean, safe housing for up to 26 families. The new center was inaugurated on 26th January 2025.

These initiatives exemplify Axis Bank’s ongoing mission to drive impactful and sustainable cancer care solutions, furthering its broader vision of empowering communities and fostering societal resilience.
