The government recognizes the plight of farmers and has started various programs to ease the misery of the nation’s cultivators. Though beneficial, few farmers are aware about the existence of these programs. - Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM Kisan Scheme)
Announced in the Interim Union Budget of India on 1 February 2019, under this initiative all small and marginal farmers will receive up to ₹6,000 per year as minimum income support. The scheme aims to supplement the financial needs of farmers to procure various inputs to ensure proper crop health and appropriate yields, commensurate with the anticipated farm income. - Soil Health Card Scheme
Launched in 2015, the scheme is intended to assist state governments in issuing Soil Health Cards to all farmers in the country. These cards provide information to farmers on nutrient status of their soil along with recommendations for appropriate dosage of nutrients to be applied for improving soil health and fertility. Farmers should contact the agriculture officer in their district to avail its benefits.
- Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY)
Launched on 1 July 2015 with the motto ‘Har Khet Ko Paani’, this scheme is aimed at providing end-to-end solutions in the irrigation supply chain, viz. water sources, distribution network and farm-level applications. It creates protective irrigation by harnessing rainwater at the micro level through ‘Jal Sanchay’ and ‘Jal Sinchan’. Farmers must take/refer to this scheme to help manage drought conditions. - Weather-based Crop Insurance
Weather-based Crop Insurance aims to mitigate losses suffered by farmers dues to adverse weather conditions like rainfall, temperature, frost, humidity etc. All farmers, including sharecroppers and tenant farmers, growing the notified crops in the notified areas are eligible for this insurance cover. This scheme allows for the fastest settlement of the claims and is vital for every farmer. Available at nearest Krishi Vigyan Kendra office.
- Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)
PMFBY is an actuarial premium-based scheme under which a farmer has to pay a maximum premium of 2% for Kharif, 1.5% for Rabi and oilseed crops, and 5% for annual commercial/horticultural crops. The Centre and state Government equally share the remaining part of the actuarial/bidded premium. One of the primary objectives of the scheme is to facilitate prompt settlement of claims.
