365telugu.com online news,Mumbai,January 2, 2026: Engineering and construction behemoth Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced today that its Minerals & Metals (M&M) business vertical has bagged “major” contracts from the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and other domestic players. These orders, classified as “major” (ranging between ₹5,000 crore to ₹10,000 crore), underscore L&T’s dominance in the metallurgical infrastructure space.

The partnership marks a significant step in SAIL’s massive modernization drive, aimed at boosting India’s indigenous steel production capacity and self-reliance.

Mega Expansion at IISCO and Bokaro
A centerpiece of these orders is the expansion of the IISCO Steel Plant (ISP) in Burnpur, West Bengal. SAIL aims to scale up its crude steel capacity from 2.5 MTPA to a massive 6.5 MTPA.

L&T has been entrusted with the end-to-end Engineering, Procurement, and Installation (EPC) for the plant’s core process units, including:

Coke Oven Battery & By-Product Plant

Basic Oxygen Furnace

Specialized Material Handling Equipment

Furthermore, L&T will strengthen its footprint in Jharkhand by establishing Sinter Plant #2 at SAIL’s Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) as part of its upstream expansion.

Technological Edge in Material Handling
Beyond the SAIL contracts, L&T’s M&M business secured several orders for specialized equipment from various Indian clients.
