The gesture was part of a head-tonsuring vow she had taken after their son, Mark Shankar, miraculously survived a fire accident in Singapore earlier this month.

Anna performed the ritual at Padmavati Kalyana Katta, following all traditional practices. A press release from the JanaSena Party stated that she also participated in related temple rituals as a mark of gratitude for her son’s recovery.

Mark Shankar had suffered burns on his hands and legs and experienced smoke inhalation during a fire that broke out at a summer camp in Singapore on April 8. Both Pawan Kalyan and Anna rushed to Singapore and were seen returning with their injured son, with the actor-turned-politician carrying him in his arms.

Upon their return to India, Anna Konidela, a Russian Orthodox Christian, expressed her deep faith in Lord Venkateswara. In accordance with Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) regulations, she signed a declaration of faith at Gayatri Sadan in the presence of temple officials before participating in the rituals.

The offering of hair is a long-standing tradition at Tirumala, symbolizing humility and devotion. Anna’s act drew attention from devotees and followers, many of whom praised the couple’s expression of faith during a deeply emotional time for the family.
