The Telangana State Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TSNAB) has issued a notice to the makers of the film asking them to change the title of the film ‘Gaanja Shankar’ as the title of the film seems to promote the use of drugs.

The notice was issued after the release of the film’s trailer, which reportedly features the protagonist, a vagabond engaged in the trade of leafy vegetables, with visuals suggesting a connection to an illegal cannabis plant.

Expressing concern, TSNAB said, “The title ‘Gaanja Shankar’ glorifying the protagonist’s actions by engaging in the business of ganja will have a negative impact on the viewers, especially students and youth.”

The notices directed the filmmakers to remove “Gaanja Shankar” from the title and avoid any objectionable scenes related to ganja or other drugs. Failure to comply may lead to legal action against those responsible under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.

‘Gaanja Shankar’ is directed by Sampath Nandi with music composed by Bheems Cicerolio. S. Produced by Naga Vamsi and Sai Saujanya. Sai Dharam Tej is playing the lead role. The film is currently undergoing post-production work for the final shots.
