Kumaraswamy, held a high-level interactive session today with Ambassadors and diplomatic representatives from key partner nations. The meet served as a formal invitation for global participation in Bharat Steel 2026, India’s flagship international steel conference and exhibition scheduled for April 2026.

The session, aimed at deepening international cooperation, highlighted India’s emergence as a central player in the global steel value chain.

India’s Steel Vision: From 300MT to 500MT
Addressing the gathering at the diplomatic outreach, Minister Kumaraswamy emphasized that India’s steel sector is a pillar of the nation’s economic transformation.

“India is currently the world’s second-largest steel producer,” the Minister noted. “Under the National Steel Policy 2017 and the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are progressing toward a capacity of 300 million tonnes by 2030, with an ambitious long-term target of 500 million tonnes by 2047.”

Currently, the sector contributes approximately 2.5% to India’s GDP and supports nearly 2.8 million livelihoods, driven by massive expansions in infrastructure, defense, and mobility.

Introducing ‘Bharat Steel 2026’
The Ministry of Steel has institutionalized “Bharat Steel” as an annual flagship event. The inaugural edition will take place in April 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

The Minister urged Ambassadors to facilitate the participation of technology providers and investors from their respective countries. He also extended an invitation for nations to join as “Partner Countries” and participate in dedicated Country Roundtables.

“Bharat Steel 2026 is envisioned as a defining platform for shaping the future of global steel cooperation,” Kumaraswamy stated, expressing confidence that the event would foster long-term bilateral ties and secure raw material supply chains.

The event at Bharat Mandapam is expected to be a landmark gathering, positioning India not just as a major producer, but as a global hub for steel technology and sustainable manufacturing.
