365Telugu.com Online News, December 27th, 2023: The 7th Telangana State Regatta organised by the Telangana Sailing Association starts today with 59 entries from 6 districts including Hyderabad, Mahboobnagar, Medchal, Narayanpet, Vikarabad and Warangal.

Telangana is now a powerhouse of sailing and the Yacht Club of Hyderabad has produced a host of fresh sailors this year with some intense mobilisation amongst the youth in Hyderabad.

The participation of Preethi Kongara at the Asian Games has provided the state with a fresh impetus in the sport. “The results will decide the participation from the State at the Nationals to be held at Mumbai in January” , said Suheim Sheikh the President of the host club who is also the head Coach . 

The Telangana State Regatta will sail 3 fleets in the Junior and Sub Junior Categories with many top ranked sailors in the country participating. 

In the Girls Deekshita Komaravelly and Lahiri Komaravelly are ranked 1 and 3 in India and are gunning for top spots in the State both are from Hyderabad District and study at Udbhav School too.

Banny Bongur of Vikarabad studying at Udbhav School Rasoolpura, ranked No.5 in India is the favourite amongst the Sub Junior Boys followed closely by Rizwan Mohammad of Hyderabad who is India No.8. 

In the Juniors who will be sailing the Laser the top seed amongst Boys is Shravan Kathravath currently ranked No.5 in India and in the Girls Vaishnavi Veeravamsham, current Junior National Champion  is likely to hit gold as she is ranked No. 7 in India with little competition within the state.

“We have a large number of sailors participating this year and while the winds are very light we hope to have better weather in the next few days and look forward to a highly competitive State Championship”, said Dadi Bhote who has recently taken over as the President of the Telangana Sailing Association.
