365Telgu.com online news,Bengaluru, April 19th, 2025: The Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), under the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India, successfully organized a two-day National Seminar on April 16-17, 2025, in Bengaluru. Titled “Safety Challenges in Bulk Material Handling Equipment in Mining (Coal and Non-Coal),” the event was held under the patronage of Shri Ujjwal Tah, Director General, DGMS.

The seminar was chaired by Shri D Bageshwar Naik, DDG (Mechanical), with Shri Ajay Singh, DDG (Electrical), and Shri R T Mandekar, DDG (North-West Zone), serving as co-convenors. Distinguished patrons included Shri P.M. Prasad, CMD, Coal India Limited (CIL); Shri Amitava Mukherjee, CMD, NMDC; Shri Uday A. Kaole, CMD, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL); and Shri N. Balram, CMD, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL).

Key dignitaries who graced the event included Shri Vinay Kumar, Director (Technical), NMDC; Shri S.K. Sinha, Director (Operations), Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL); Shri Nirbhay Sancheti, Director (SMS); Shri R.A. Meena, DDG (Western Zone); Shri Suprio Chakraborty, DDG (Eastern Zone); Shri Neeraj Kumar, DDG (Northern Zone); and Shri Satyanarayana, Director, SCCL.
The seminar saw participation from officials of major mining companies such as CIL, NMDC, SCCL, Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), HCL, MCL, Tata Steel, and JSW, alongside faculty from premier mining institutes, global mining safety experts, research organizations, and equipment manufacturers.

A total of 30 technical papers were presented, with 58 papers published in the seminar’s souvenir. These papers addressed critical safety challenges in bulk material handling in the mining industry, fostering discussions on risk mitigation strategies. The event provided a platform to enhance safety standards and strengthen the enforcement of statutory provisions to improve the health and safety of mining workers.

The seminar concluded with a valedictory ceremony, where participants were felicitated for their contributions to advancing safety in the mining sector.
