365Telugu.com online news,August 5th,2024: Osteoporosis: This condition involves a loss of bone density, making bones weaker and more likely to break. Osteoporosis is common in older adults, especially women after menopause, due to decreased levels of estrogen which helps maintain bone density.

Bone Density Loss: With age, bones naturally lose density due to a decrease in the production of bone-forming cells (osteoblasts) and an increase in bone-resorbing cells (osteoclasts).

Decreased Bone Strength: As bone density decreases, the bones become more porous and brittle. This makes them less able to withstand stress and more prone to fractures from minor falls or impacts.

Slower Healing: Aging affects the body’s ability to heal. Older adults may experience slower recovery times and increased complications following fractures or injuries.

Muscle Weakness: Aging can lead to a decline in muscle mass and strength (sarcopenia), which impacts balance and increases the risk of falls. Weak muscles are less effective in protecting bones during falls or accidents.

Impaired Balance and Coordination: Balance and coordination often decline with age, increasing the likelihood of falls, which can result in bone fractures.

Nutritional Deficiencies: Older adults may have dietary deficiencies, particularly in calcium and vitamin D, both of which are essential for maintaining bone health. Calcium helps build and maintain bone structure, while vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium.

Chronic Diseases and Medications: Certain chronic conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and their treatments, including long-term use of corticosteroids, can contribute to bone loss and increased fracture risk.

Hormonal Changes: Hormonal changes, such as those that occur during menopause, can lead to increased bone loss. Estrogen plays a critical role in maintaining bone density, and its decline can accelerate bone loss.

Reduced Physical Activity: Older adults may become less physically active, which can lead to weaker bones and muscles. Weight-bearing exercises are important for maintaining bone density.
