Kochi and Kerala can be traveled by plane or train from any part of India.The first thing you should do when you reach Kochi is to get permission to visit Lakshadweep.

There are some such sensitive or protected places in India where you need to take permission from the administration before going. Lakshadweep is one such place.

Lakshadweep administration has its office in Willington Island area of Kochi. You can go here and apply for a permit.You can apply for the permit online even before starting your journey. To apply online, do so.

While applying, you need to upload travel date, island, documents. All these works should be completed 15 days in advance. The permit is valid for 30 days. Its fee is Rs. 300. Also Rs.300 has to be paid under green tax at the airport.

Alternatively, you can download the application from the Lakshadweep Administration website. First fill this application and then submit it at the Collector’s office. But keep in mind that this can take time, so it’s best to plan ahead.

Keep your ID proof, passport size photograph, permit with you. You have to present this permission at the police station or administrative office in Lakshadweep.

One more thing. You may need to obtain some additional permit for scuba diving or wildlife photography. After getting the permission the journey can be started.

How to reach Lakshadweep from Kochi?
You can reach Lakshadweep in two ways. First flight. Second – water ship. For these two methods you need to come to Kochi, Kerala.

There is no direct flight from anywhere except Kochi to Lakshadweep. After reaching Kochi, if you want to go to Lakshadweep by air, there are flights available to Agatti.

The flight is about an hour and a half.

But keep in mind that the number of flights to Lakshadweep will be very less till early January 2024. That means you can book tickets in advance and plan your journey properly. Apart from flight, you can also go from Kochi to Lakshadweep by ship.

According to Lakshadweep administration website, flights are available from Kochi to Agatti and Bangaram islands. Agatti has only one airstrip.
